Manager, Power System Studies

- The technical capability in the team is very strong and broad, it spans EMT, HVDC, Power systems operations and planning. Lots of variety.
- You can get involved in the whole system side, long term planning, generation, interconnection work, detailed EMT studies. Earthing & Lightning protection work. You can carve out what you’d like to be involved in and define where you want to go.
- We're working on some great projects! Doing the studies for a new CCGT plant with a carbon capture and storage facility - One of the first in the UK. Creating and developing user defined models for electrolysers connecting to our networks and more!
The role covers four main areas of responsibility:
- Team Leadership
- Resource planning
- Consulting Services, including technical delivery and support
- Business Development and Sales
Team Leadership:
Foster a supportive and flexible environment where your team has autonomy, accountability and a great work life balance. Hold regular one-on-one meetings, oversee performance reviews, coordinate development programmes, and ensure your team has the technical and professional mentorship needed to thrive. Hire the right people to build a skilled team and promote a culture of trust, flexibility and continuous development.
Resource Planning & Technical Work:
Balance team workloads effectively, ensuring each team member has a diverse range of projects, time for professional development and participation in industry / innovation. Minimise bench time and optimise team utilisation. Collaborate globally and manage a range of technical tasks, including model development, testing, and preparing technical reports.
Consulting Services:
Lead technical engagements with clients to ensure services meet expectations and manage complex consulting projects. Act as the technical lead or reviewer as needed, coordinating the delivery of multi-consultant projects and managing time, scope, and budget to ensure successful outcomes.
Business Development and Sales:
Identify and develop opportunities within existing and potential client bases. Contribute to proposals for your team and work globally on wider proposals. Build and maintain relationships with clients, represent PSC in industry forums, and stay updated with market trends. Maintain CRM information for your clients and opportunities.

About You
A collaborative leader and team player with a passion for both people and technical excellence. You’ll excel at shaping your team and creating an outstanding work environment. Your skill in building strong relationships and driving impactful conversations with both your team and clients truly sets you apart.
- 10+ years of experience preferably including experience within a consulting environment.
- Expert level user of software tools specifically (PSS/E, DigSILENT and/or PSCAD network simulation software), with proficiency in multiple packages preferred.
- Previous experience in project management, including budgeting and timelines.
- Chartered Engineering or working towards is desirable.
- A bachelor’s in electrical engineering is required; however, a master’s degree or higher is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional communication skills, adept at addressing complex issues and influencing diverse audiences, with a proven ability to actively listen and translate concerns into successful outcomes.
- Demonstrates integrity, resilience, and a positive presence, balancing organisational excellence with personal life through astute time management and sound judgment.
