Senior Consultant, Power System Studies
We are looking for a Senior Consultant to join our Power Networks department. This is a consulting role that requires high communication skills and expert-level guidance on dynamic power systems analysis for complex Power Networks projects. You will lead various client projects, which include planning for power generation and transmission, reliability planning, load interconnection, feasibility studies, and other network modeling assessments. You will also mentor less experienced consultants and contribute to business development and proposal activities.

What You’ll Do
- Perform power system analysis, transmission, and generator connection studies that meet client technical specifications in reliability, regulation, and quality requirements and standards.
- Perform complex power generation and transmission studies such as generator connections, voltage stability, arc-flash energy studies, insulation coordination, feasibility studies, power station and control system design, and network planning.
- Perform classical power system analysis & modeling including load flow, transient stability, short circuit analysis, and small signal assessments.
- Use industry-specific software tools like PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerWorld, and DigSILENT.
- Manage client expectations through regular communications and responsiveness.
- Develop solutions independently and have the trust of the client to do so.
- Develop project schedule with little oversight and track and manage project schedule, actions, issues, risks, and decisions independently for the job.
- Contribute and direct others to develop project sheets, case studies, or other external content.
- Lead team to solve complex problems and guide less experienced consultants on complex problems.
- Serve as technical lead and/or reviewer for consulting projects within the Power Networks service offering.
- Mentor less experienced consultants and provide feedback to managers for performance reviews.
- Identify business opportunities or other client challenges and communicate to management.
We’d love you to have:
- Ten (10)+ years of advanced Power Networks experience, with an understanding of multiple technologies and functional areas.
- Advanced user of network simulation software, with a specific preference towards PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, PSCAD, EMTP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Strong knowledge of industry regulations.
- Significant latitude for independent judgment and decision-making.
- Ability to work to deadlines and exceed client expectations.
- Excellent presentation skills to represent PSC in industry forums, working groups, and conferences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – in particular, clear and unambiguous email and technical document writing.
- Ability to build and improve relationships with global PSC resources, clients, key suppliers, and partners.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills with outstanding attention to detail.
- Strong levels of initiative, self-motivation, and aptitude to learn.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in power systems.
- Professional Engineer designation or a readiness to acquire one.

PSC is committed to the principle of pay equity – paying employees equitably for substantially similar work. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At PSC it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $144,000 to $200,000 or CAD 151,000 to CAD 205,000.
