IT Systems Administrator - Edinburgh or Newcastle
Join us as an IT Systems Administrator within our international IT team, based in Edinburgh or Newcastle. We're a Microsoft-focused environment using a virtualized infrastructure primarily on Hyper-V. In this role, you'll engage with diverse IT systems across various regions, actively supporting and enhancing our infrastructure. You'll be the main point of contact for our UK staff during office hours, reporting to the Global Senior IT Manager based in Seattle. Expect hands-on experience managing and refining Microsoft 365, including mobile device management, security compliance, and policy updates.
You'll also design and maintain backup solutions, support engineering applications on virtual servers, and refine monitoring systems for optimal performance. Additionally, the role involves proactive network management, monitoring security alerts, troubleshooting issues, and participating in global projects that focus on infrastructure revamps, security enhancements, and backup/storage optimizations. As part of a small, distributed team across the UK, Australia, and the United States, you need to be comfortable working independently. Occasionally, you may provide ad hoc support outside regular hours if international colleagues are on leave.
Key responsibilities:
- System Administration: Develop and maintain Microsoft 365 technologies, including Intune, Exchange, and SharePoint.
- User Support: Provide hands-on assistance, troubleshoot issues, handle requests, and support onboarding for new staff.
- Systems Management: Oversee servers, desktops, mobile devices, and network hardware through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Project Involvement: Participate in global projects, including infrastructure revamps, security overhauls, and backup/storage improvements.
About you:
- Experience: 8+ years in IT support and projects, ideally transitioning from helpdesk to more advanced technical roles.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, mobile device management, server technologies (Windows Server, Proxmox, or Hyper-V), and systems security practices.
- Certified: Certifications in areas such as Microsoft, Cisco, and security are advantageous.
- Problem Solver: Capable of diagnosing and solving issues independently, with a desire to learn and grow.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills to convey technical information clearly to users.
- Customer-Focused Support: Deliver exceptional service by actively listening, empathizing, and providing timely, accurate solutions to technical issues.
- Enthusiastic: Eager to tackle technology-related challenges, even beyond current expertise.
- Business Partner: Experience as an IT business analyst, partnering with business units to create solutions supporting company initiatives
