What You’ll Do
As an Earthing Consultant, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safety and reliability of high voltage electrical infrastructure. You will be responsible for supporting earthing system studies and delivering high-quality technical solutions. Working alongside senior consultants, you will develop and conduct earthing design studies and perform on site surveys of electrical installations, to ensure compliance with UK standards and Client policies.
In this role, you’ll gain the opportunity to develop your skills and work towards independently delivering earthing system studies and surveys. This role will also allow you to expand your skillset through the execution of lightning protection and impressed voltage studies. Your work will directly contribute to the success of client projects while supporting technical delivery and solving complex issues in the power systems sector. There’s lots of opportunity to progress your career in a supportive and skilled team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the delivery of earthing system studies, ensuring compliance with UK standards, and Client policies.
- Conducting site surveys, including soil resistivity and earthing system resistance/impedance measurements, visual inspections, and electrical continuity checks.
- Collaborating with senior consultants on technical problem-solving and project delivery.
- Developing and managing project schedules, actions, risks, and decisions with minimal supervision.
- Gaining independence in delivering earthing design studies and site surveys over time.
- Regular communication with clients to ensure their needs are met and the project is on track.
- Assisting in the delivery of on-site surveys and design studies as part of a collaborative team
Location, Travel and Site Work:
- The role will involve occasional travel within the UK for site surveys. You should expect to spend 2-3 days a week on-site once or twice a month, depending on project needs. This may involve overnight stays depending on the location.
- The role mainly covers the South Wales / Bristol area so someone based around this area is ideal. You’ll work a mixture of onsite, remote (if you want to) and in an office space where the team collaborates regularly.
- The work may include physically demanding tasks such as visual inspections and electrical measurements.
Experience needed:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 2+ years’ experience in power engineering, ideally with some exposure to earthing design studies or site surveys.
- A good understanding of the UK electricity transmission and distribution network.
- Demonstrated ability to create technical reports and documentation.
- Proficiency in using AutoCAD or similar CAD software would be beneficial.
- Strong attention to detail and conceptual skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, in technical and client-facing settings.
