Principal Protection Engineer, Power Network Solutions
Are you a seasoned Protection & Control engineer ready to shape the future of power networks in New Zealand and Australia?
PSC Power Networks New Zealand is launching a new Protection & Control team, and we’re seeking a Principal Protection Engineer to play a key role in this exciting journey. This is a pivotal opportunity to deliver high-impact consultancy services across Generation, Transmission, and Distribution segments, supporting clients with advanced engineering solutions.
What You’ll Do
As a Principal Consultant, you’ll be at the forefront of technical delivery and technical leadership, driving complex protection studies, designing secondary systems, and mentoring the next generation of engineers. You’ll work closely with clients, oversee project delivery, and play a key role supporting management in business development and team growth.
- Technical Expertise: Leading complex protection studies at the transmission level, developing and reviewing Protection Philosophies (including Digital Substations and IEC 61850), configuring relay settings and coordination, designing secondary systems, and providing project delivery support - including site inspections and commissioning as needed.
- Consulting Services: Engage with clients, develop proposals, manage projects, and deliver technical reports. Ensure quality assurance and exceed client expectations.
- Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Guide and coach less experienced engineers technically, lead project teams, and serve as technical lead or reviewer for consulting assignments.
- Business Development & Sales Support: Support management in business development by contributing to PSC’s growth by identifying new opportunities, supporting proposals, and representing PSC at industry events and forums.
What You’ll Bring
- Deep expertise in Power Networks, with strong protection and control engineering experience -including Transmission and Generator Protection.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Advanced user of industry-standard software used by Protection Engineers in New Zealand electricity industry (e.g., Digsilent Power Factory), and thorough knowledge of local regulations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated independent judgement, initiative, and a drive to deliver outstanding results.
